Belief in angels is a key component of our faith and a number of important aspects of our faith are connected to the angels. Thus, our belief in them becomes very critical to our faith. Belief in the existence of angels effects our imaan in many ways.
Revelation
Jibril alayhissalam is responsible for bringing the revelation to the Prophets. We know that it was Jibril alayhissalam that brought the ayaat of the Qur’an from Allah to Muhammad ﷺ and we know revelation brings guidance and light into our lives increasing our Imaan. Our iman is boosted when we hear the stories in the Qur’an. Even listening to the Qur’an immensely effects our Iman. So, we see how revelation is very important in increasing our imaan and how important Jibril alayhissalam is in the process that ensured that the revelation reaches us. Hence belief in Jibril alayhissalm is directly connected to our iman.
Recording of deeds
The Prophet (salallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: There is none amongst you except that he has been assigned a partner from the angels and a partner from the jinn.
Allah SWT has appointed angels that record our deeds at all times. Every good that we do, say or intend is recorded and similarly every bad deed that we do or a bad word we utter is also recorded. If we have this belief that we are being watch at all times, a natural result of that should be us being careful of what we say, do and think – all of which can have an effect on one’s imaan.
Angels making dua for us
Angels are creatures that are near to Allah and they do not commit sin or lie. We can have these majestic creatures of Allah make dua for us. We are told in a hadith that if we make dua for a Muslim in his/her absence, the angels make to Allah that we be granted the same. This should motivate us to wish good and pray for good of others that will inshaAllah also benefit us and we will be granted a sound heart. What can we better than having the angels make dua’ for us.
Allaah said (what means): Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allaah) and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah) (saying): “Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way, and save them from the torment of the blazing Fire! Our Lord! And make them enter the ‘Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens) which you have promised them, and to the righteous among their fathers, their wives, and their offspring! Verily, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. And save them from (the punishment, because of what they did of) the sins, and whomsoever You save from (the punishment, because of what they did of) the sins (i.e. excuse them) that Day, him verily, You have taken into mercy.” And that is the supreme success. (Ghafir, ayat 7-9)
